Freedumb.

The helmet law here in Michigan was repealed yesterday. While I believe that it should be the riders choice whether to wear a lid or not, I still think it's dumb not to wear one. I wear a full face 90% of the time, and I will continue to do so. I like my face and don't want to look like this guy. So to all of you freedom fighters out there, go out, be free, just be sure to sign your organ donor card. Seriously.

Oh, and have a look at this image showing where your head hits things when you get into an accident.

These numbers were from The Hurt Report done way back in 1981 and are why I personally wear a full face.

I hope this means we're a giant step closer to legalizing lane splitting, cuz that's something I'd take advantage of!

  1. Couldn't agree more with this. I'm a helmet wearer, but completely think it should be by choice.

  2. almost all of the crashes I performed either dirt or street
my face was involved with the ground. I always wore a fullface with a few exceptions. one year at Sturgis somebody stole my helmet and I rode back with no helmet.
there were times I rode with an open face on the street but never again. having freedom of choice is great.

    1. I think those of us that spent time in the dirt have a greater appreciation for full face helmets. Those that didn't will never understand.

    1. Ha! There's no soccer moms changing lanes without signaling and pulling left turns in front of you at Bonneville! I say do it!

  5. never lived in a state that required helmets but wear one 95% of the time. oddly enough I ride around the neighborhood without one which statistically is probably where I'd get nailed.

  6. What astounds me is how seatbelt laws are explained/justified and now consistent between states, but helmet laws are getting rolled back left and right.

  7. Since it's your choice, do you wear one in the shower? In your car? While walking on a cement sidewalk? You're far more likely to fall and hit your head doing those things than riding a motorcycle.
Seriously, if I was so afraid of riding a motorcycle that I had to wear a helmet, I just wouldn't ride a motorcycle.

    1. Nope. Only on the motorcycle, when I'm doing serious mountain biking, and if I'm out in the back country snowboarding. I don't wear a helmet because I'm afraid. I wear it because I live in a metro area with 4 million plus people and not one of them pays attention to motorcycles. In the chance I was to get hit by one, wearing a helmet protects my head/face considerably. And I don't know about you, but I ride my bike a lot faster than I walk or shower. The only car I own is a 1000 hp dragster, so yes, I do wear a helmet when I drive that.
